Organic
I am dedicated to eating organic whenever possible. I only purchase organic produce, and make an effort to eat in organic restaurants. I even search them out when I am on vacation. I know that my choice to eat organic positively impacts the planet and it's my way of making a difference. I appreciate Roots' produce department—it is the largest produce selection in the Washington DC/Baltimore area that is 100% organic. For me, Roots is one–stop shopping because I can purchase organic meat and dairy. I choose organic because it not only affects the planet, but also my health.

Healthy
I am committed to feeding myself and my family the healthiest food possible. I'm not exclusively vegetarian, but I am aware of the nutritional value of my food and make an effort to avoid additives and pesticides. I know that when I shop at Roots, that the products have been selected with the highest regard for my health. I particularly appreciate the organic meat and dairy products.

Vegetarian
I choose to eat a vegetarian diet. My diet consists of not eating any animal products such as red meat, poultry, fish and shellfish. I will however eat dairy products and eggs. At Roots, I find an extensive selection of products to support my diet; at least 90% of the store is vegetarian!

Vegan
My diet is strictly vegan. I do not eat animal products of any type including dairy products, honey, animal gelatin, and all other foods of animal origin. My diet takes the vegetarian approach one step further by applying an ethical belief regarding the treatment of animals. Not only do I avoid animal products in my food, I also avoid the use of leather, wool, fur, and silk in clothing, and upholstery. Having access to Roots, Great Sage, and Nest, I am able to eat well and live well without compromising my philosophy.
Wheat/Gluten-Free
I am on a diet that restricts the consumption of gluten. Gluten is the protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and oats. I suffer from a gluten intolerance disorder called celiac disease and I experience intestinal discomfort when ingesting products containing gluten. I have never had so many products to choose from; Roots has made my life so much easier!

My child is autistic and his pediatrician suggested a gluten-free diet. I was overwhelmed by the radical change that my family would have to make. Then, I discovered the extensive gluten–free section at Roots. Now I'm able to make meals that are appropriate for my son and that the whole family can enjoy.

Raw & Living Foods
I choose to eat only raw foods. My diet consists of organic fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, oils, and sprouted grains. I believe that this diet is the best for health and longevity.   Uncooked foods (not heated above 116 degrees) have a higher nutrient value and contain enzymes which are vital to the body for the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking food reduces some vitamin and mineral availability; destroys some enzymes, interferes with digestion; and may weaken the power of antioxidants and the immune system. At Roots I can find the largest selection of organic fruits, vegetables, and nuts, not to mention packaged cereals, crackers, and sweets.

Gourmet
I am passionate about food. I search high and low for interesting, beautiful food. I love to entertain and feed my friends. I prefer to shop in specialty stores so I can find the most unique, high-quality products. It's so great to have access to European foods right here in my own backyard. I appreciate that not only are they gourmet, but they are natural.
